All season we’re tackling the harsh reality of our broken healthcare system in Money versus Medicine, but here’s a positive story that recently made headlines. Legendary NBA player, Michael Jordan, has funded a health clinic in Charlotte, North Carolina to provide care to those who have little to no health insurance. The first clinic opened in October of 2019. It’s the first of two medical clinics in North Carolina that Michael is opening. The idea of course is to provide primary care access, preventive care to underprivileged members of the community and, I gotta tall you, Michael, give him credit. Inspired to do this
(audience applauds) because he realized how many people weren’t getting the care they needed. And you know he was inspired to create this clinic because there was a 2014 study that showed that low-income children in Charlotte, have the worst odds to get out of poverty when compared to other children from major cities, so I love that. Every child deserves a chance, a chance to be the best version of themselves.
